Description

What if the groom-to-be became captain for the day? Welcome to the Raft Challenge, a Lyon bachelor party activity where each team builds its own raft before launching it onto the water. Here, ingenuity matters just as much as team spirit!

Meet at Grand Large lake in Meyzieu, just 15 minutes from Lyon city centre. Over two hours, your group will take on fun land-based challenges, tackle a makeshift shipyard and race your rafts across the water.

The equipment isn’t handed to you — you have to earn it! Then it’s up to your team to turn your hard-won materials into a raft that can stay afloat… and race faster than the competition.

Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast, a master strategist, a strongman or a born captain, everyone has a role to play on board. And of course, the groom-to-be is expected to lead the charge!

Available from April to October for groups of at least 9 participants, this fun day out with friends in Lyon also includes a free place for the groom-to-be when your group has 10 or more participants.

Good to know

You must be able to swim to take part, and a life jacket is provided for every participant. Bring your swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes — getting splashed is all part of the fun!

How the activity works

1

👋 Welcoming the crew

Everyone makes their own way to Grand Large lake. Your activity leader welcomes the group, splits you into teams and explains the rules. Water, juice and sweets are available throughout the activity to keep everyone refreshed and fuelled up.
2

🪢 Building the Rafts

Before you can build, you need to earn your equipment! A series of fun land-based challenges lets teams win the materials they’ll need. With bamboo poles of different sizes, ropes and inner tubes to inflate with a pump, it’s then time to put your raft together against the clock. One loose knot could spell disaster once you hit the water!
3

🛶 The Raft Race

Life jackets on, it’s time to launch your rafts under the supervision of a state-certified instructor. One or more races await the teams, with challenges to complete, such as reaching out to touch a buoy. May the strongest… and fastest… raft win!

🏆 The Prize

Back on dry land, it’s time to wrap up the adventure. The groom-to-be receives his reward to a round of applause from the whole crew!

FAQ

Where does the Raft Challenge take place?

The Raft Challenge takes place at Grand Large lake in Meyzieu, just 15 minutes from Lyon city centre. Participants make their own way to the meeting point.

When can you organise a bachelor party raft challenge?

The activity runs from April to October, with dates and times arranged to suit your group, subject to availability. Booking well in advance is recommended during peak season, although last-minute requests can still be considered.

How does the activity work?

Over two hours, your group will take on land-based challenges to win building materials, work together to build a raft, then race across the water while completing challenges. The groom-to-be receives a reward at the end.

Why choose the Raft Challenge for a bachelor party?

Because it takes teamwork to think, build and navigate together — without cooperation, there’s no victory! The activity can be run in either French or English, and the groom-to-be is welcome to come in fancy dress if he likes.

How much does the Raft Challenge cost?

Prices start at €55 per person, including all equipment and refreshments. The groom-to-be takes part for free with groups of 10 or more.

Do you need to know how to swim?

Yes, swimming is essential, even though everyone wears a life jacket on the water. The raft races are supervised by a state-certified instructor, while an activity leader runs the land-based challenges.

How many participants are needed?

A minimum of 6 participants is required, with no maximum group size. The activity is designed for adults aged 18 and over.

What happens if it rains?

We’ll discuss the options with you based on the weather: the activity will either go ahead with adjustments, be rescheduled where possible, or be cancelled with a full refund.

How do I book the Raft Challenge?

Contact Tanguy on 04 78 79 28 13 or by email at lyon@takamaka.fr. Payment can be made online, by bank transfer, or by two cheques payable to Takamaka, each covering 50% of the total amount.
